In 2001, at only 26 years old, Drew Patten put it all on the line with Andrew Buchanan, to open a restaurant in the heart of some of the fiercest culinary competition in Queensland.
Drew, who had worked in premium restaurants around the world while completing his Bachelor of Economics and Master of Business degrees, threw in a high-paying job in Sydney with Macquarie IT to launch the venture in his home town.
Working in such esteemed establishments instilled in Drew the philosophy that if something is worth doing, it should to the highest standards in every area, including food, drinks, and wine service.
“In the restaurant business, it’s all about consistency and quality for the customer in terms of food, service and overall experience. This can only be delivered with professional staff who embrace and employ this philosophy, both in front and back of houseâ€.
With numerous awards and accolades already bestowed on Urbane, Drew’s eye is now firmly on the future. His vision includes evolving the restaurant further to ensure it keeps its mantle as one of the best restaurants in Queensland, if not Australia.
“At Urbane, we are obsessed with improving ourselves and not becoming complacent with our approach to fine dining. We want to be continually pushing boundaries and exceeding our customers’ expectations.â€
Educating customers in food and wine appreciation is one aspect of his job Drew is most enthusiastic about.
“I believe great food is directly related to the base ingredients, therefore the freshest and best produce should always be used. I feel proud to know that we are providing our customers with a premium dining experience.â€
